With the intense blue hue of the Sea of Cortez, its arid deserts surrounded by nearby mountains, and Cerralvo Island ever present on the horizon, you cannot help but admire the natural beauty of La Ventana.
Located just forty minutes from the city of La Paz, the capital of Baja California Sur, Mexico, La Ventana is a small town on the Sea of Cortez that enjoys beautiful beaches, magnificent sunsets, and abundant nature.
In addition to its incredible landscapes, La Ventana has become known as one of the best destinations in the world for the practice of kitesurfing. During the nineteen eighties a group of windsurfers discovered that the way the wind hits the beach in La Ventana, it creates a natural tunnel that provides steady and dependable breezes that provides the best conditions for wind and water sports.
Because of this, La Ventana has become a mecca for windsurfers and kiteboarders worldwide, and hosts multiple international competitions between the months of November through March, which the locals have dubbed “Kite Season.”
When “Kite Season” ends, or you are looking for other activities, you’re in luck. In the Sea of Cortez, you can enjoy freediving, scuba, snorkeling, fishing, whale watching, paddle boarding, or kayaking.
On land, the area is known for its mountain biking trails. The area is ripe for exploring and taking photos of beautiful picturesque vistas, as much as it is perfect for taking a long walk on its unspoiled sea-shell covered beaches. Local artists and stores sell crafts and goods and anything you cannot find in La Ventana is a short drive away.
At night, it is common to see beach bonfires, gaze at the countless stars in the sky, or enjoy the delicious cuisine and nightly entertainment at local bars and restaurants.
